How Points and Tickets Affect Your License and Insurance
New Jersey uses a point system to track moving violations. When a driver is convicted of most traffic offenses, the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) adds points to the driver’s record based on the severity of the violation.
Accumulating 12 or more points on your driving record will result in a license suspension. Even before reaching that threshold, drivers may face additional penalties. The MVC may assess state surcharges once a driver accumulates six or more points within three years, and each additional point can increase the surcharge amount.
Points can also significantly impact auto insurance premiums, often leading to increased rates that can cost drivers hundreds or even thousands of dollars over time.
Because of these potential consequences, it is important to carefully evaluate any traffic charge and understand how it may affect your driving record and future costs.
How We Help?
Strategic Defense for Traffic Violations.
Downgrade to zero-point offenses
We frequently negotiate tickets down to “unsafe driving” or similar, which carry no points (though may carry a fine or surcharge).
Dismissal for errors
If there are problems with the radar, paperwork, or procedures, we can often get tickets thrown out entirely.
Fight suspensions
For those at risk of losing their license, we represent you at suspension hearings and push for alternatives like probation or driver improvement programs.
Municipal Court Trials
If a traffic charge cannot be resolved favorably, we are prepared to proceed to trial in municipal court. We carefully examine the evidence, cross-examine officers, and present a strategic defense on your behalf.
